![]() You may even be a little worried you might choose wrong. However, we have made a short guide on things your toothpaste should have in it to keep your teeth as healthy as possible. What to Look for in ToothpasteThe most important thing toothpaste should have in it is fluoride. Fluoride is so important because it helps strengthen your teeth's enamel. Having strong enamel is important because it slowly wears away over time. Strengthening it helps prevent wear. Unlike other things like bone or skin, enamel can't regrow. This means that once enamel wears away, it's never coming back. The next important thing you want to look for in toothpaste is an abrasive agent. What makes toothpaste effective at doing its job are the abrasive agents in it that help scrub away bacteria on your teeth. The ingredient list on toothpaste boxes may be long, but you'll know there's an abrasive agent if you see either calcium carbonate, aluminum oxide, or silicates. Another important thing to consider when getting a toothpaste is flavor. It's true! Flavor plays an important role in how well you'll use your toothpaste as well as how often you'll want to use it. If you get a flavor you don't like, you're less likely to brush your teeth. This is especially important for young children who haven't developed solid brushing habits yet.
