Dentures to Implant Bridge

Rendering of jaw with implant bridgeDentures have helped many people to be able to live a normal life once again. They have allowed those people to talk like normal. They can also smile and eat in a way that is not embarrassing. That does not mean that dentures are without problems. Dentures can sometimes be uncomfortable, especially when wearing them for hours. They need to stay wet, so they need to be soaked when they are taken out.

Dentures can sometimes move while eating, which is embarrassing. It could still be hard to eat some foods with dentures. Also, when dentures are taken out, the same old problems with smiling, talking, and eating return.

There is a fairly new option for people who have dentures but wish that there was something else that they could do. If that sounds like you and your situation, we here at Taglia Advanced Dentistry would like to talk to you about an implant bridge.

What Is an Implant Bridge?

With an implant bridge, you can once again have permanent teeth in your mouth. You will not have to worry about the troubles that you experience with dentures.

An implant bridge is made up of two different things. It starts with some implants, which will be added permanently to your jaw. We will then extend a bridge of natural-looking artificial teeth across the implants. The implants will hold the bridge in place, and you will have a new set of permanent teeth.

If you already have dentures, you could be a good candidate for an implant bridge. It would help if you were free of gum disease. You also need to have enough bone in your jaw for the implants. If there is not enough bone and we think that you are a good candidate for an implant bridge, we will most likely suggest a bone graft. We will then add screws to your jaw that will become the new artificial roots for the artificial teeth.

Your next step will be to heal while the bone and the screws fuse. We will give you a set of temporary teeth to use during this process. Since you have been wearing dentures, you will already know how to take care of these teeth.

Once your jaw has healed, you will come into the office, and we will finish the implants. Once they look good, we will take care of the bridge. You will have a new smile with permanent teeth. You will no longer be able to take your teeth out as you did with your dentures.

Implant bridges are giving some patients a chance to enjoy things that they used to enjoy, without having to worry about their dentures. If you would like to get rid of your dentures for good, come in to Taglia Advanced Dentistry so that we can see if you are a good candidate.
