Single Tooth Implant
Losing a tooth as a child can be an exciting experience. The same is not true if you are an adult. Losing a tooth as an adult can make you self-conscious, especially if there is not a gap that is visible each time that you open your mouth. The loss of one tooth is also not good for the other teeth because there will be a gap and your other teeth could end up shifting or even becoming loose.
Fortunately, there are things that we can do if you lose a tooth that will give you back your self-confidence and your smile. We can give you a new tooth that looks like the rest of your teeth. One of the ways that we here at Taglia Advanced Dentistry can replace a tooth is with a dental implant. An implant will give you a reason to smile again.
A Single Tooth Implant Can Replace a Missing Tooth
There are many reasons why a tooth may be missing. It could be because of decay. There could have been a trauma that knocked out the tooth. We might also suggest an implant if a tooth is deformed. Here are the basics of a single tooth implant. In simplest terms, with a single tooth dental implant, we will replace the entire tooth with a brand-new tooth that is artificial. Your implant will be permanent.
With a single tooth implant, we will replace the roots of your tooth with a screw. That will be placed into your jaw, and it will become the new root. A crown will later be placed on top, and that will become your new tooth. It will be strong, and you will soon forget that it is even there because it will feel just like a natural tooth. One thing that is important for a dental implant is that there needs to be good bone structure in your jaw. That does not mean that you will not be able to have an implant if you have bone loss. We might still be able to do it, but we would probably also do a bone graft first.
A dental implant takes time. That is because we will need to wait for the bone around the screw and the screw to fuse. This is known as osseointegration. We will most likely give you a temporary crown at this time. If you are a smoker, you will need to quit because smoking can impede the osseointegration process. If the bone does not fuse to the screw, we will remove the screw. Once you have healed, you will take care of an implant just like the rest of your teeth. You will need to brush several times a day, floss, and see us on a regular schedule.
A single dental implant can be a great way to have a full set of teeth once again. If you are missing a tooth or would like more information, contact us here at Taglia Advanced Dentistry.
