Dental Implant Placement
There are many different reasons why someone might lose a tooth. Often it happens because there is much decay on the tooth, and it is damaged beyond repair. Sometimes there is a trauma to the face, such as a fall or an accident during a game of sports. A tooth can sometimes crack because of a hard object, and the tooth cannot be saved. Age can also be a factor.
Here at Taglia Advanced Dentistry we want to save the tooth if we can, but that is not always possible. If we cannot save the tooth, we might recommend a dental implant. This will give you a new tooth that is artificial, so no one will know that you are missing one or more of your natural teeth.
A Bit About Placement and Dental Implants
The placement of an artificial tooth makes a difference. We could suggest an implant, or we might suggest a different type of replacement.
Your central incisors are the two middle teeth on the top and bottom of your mouth. These are the teeth that you will use to tear off bits of food. It is important that they are strong. If you are missing one of your central incisors, there is a good chance that we will recommend a dental implant because we want you to be able to eat like you did before you were missing the tooth.
Your molars are the teeth in the back of your mouth. These also need to be strong, because these are the teeth that will grind up the food when you are chewing. That is the first step to digesting your food. If you have lost a molar, an implant could be the best choice to take its place.
Another thing that we need to keep in mind when we are thinking about whether or not you are a good candidate for an implant is how much bone you have in your jaw. If there is not enough bone, the implant will not be successful. If that is the case, a bone graft could be the solution. You would then have enough bone to be able to hold the implant.
With an implant bridge, you will receive a few implants, and then a bridge will be attached to them so that you will have a new set of teeth. With an implant bridge, we will carefully select the placement of the implants because we will want them to go where they will be the strongest. Picking the right spot for the implants in an implant bridge is an important step in the process.
While dental implants have changed many lives, they might not be the only solution. Depending on where you are missing the tooth, we might recommend a bridge instead. Here at Taglia Advanced Dentistry, we will look at all of the possibilities so that we will be able to make the right choice for you and your situation.
